As a curvy girl myself, wearing thigh-high socks is a real battle for me.

Most of the time, my socks just keep falling down and I have to fix them every 20 minutes.

Even when the thighs are well fixed, my “muffin top” on my thigh ( I tried my best to describe…) just keeps squeezing out and that’s definitely not what I want.

It takes me some time to figure out what kind of thigh-high socks suits me the best and it’s always worth it.

Now, I do find thigh-high socks really flattering on me, and here are my 8 tips on how to wear thigh-high socks for plus-size ladies.

1. Be intentional about the fabric

For the first tip, let’s talk about the basics first.

If you want to look good in your high-knee socks, it’s always worth it to invest some money in them.

I’ve bought some really cheap socks before and realized there’s no spandex in them.

Spandex is a lightweight fiber to gives some flexibility to the fabric and makes the high-knee socks more stretchy and breathable and that’s really crucial for us!

So ladies, always look for high-knee socks with a higher percentage of spandex material to avoid a refund!

Trust me, this is plain torture to wear knee-high thighs without flexibility.

You want to learn all the styling hacks ONLY if you feel like it.

Remember, we never have the need to “fix” our bodies!

2. Go monochrome for your legs and shoes for elongating effect

For the ladies who worry wearing thigh-high socks will make you look shorter, this is not true!

If you are wearing the common black over-knee socks, you can always wear black heels or black pointed flats for a tone-on-tone look.

With the V shape shoe lining and the same color as your high knee socks, it makes your legs appear to be longer and slimmer.

Of course, you can go with dark grey socks with grey shoes, they can look flattering too!

But always avoid wearing shoes with a big color contrast with your socks as this will visually separate your legs into a few different chunks and fail to avoid a slender leg figure overall.

3. Wear a sheer thigh underneath the thigh-high socks

As I’ve said before, I can’t help but squeeze the “muffin top of my thigh” whenever I wear thigh-high socks.

One of the easiest ways to deal with that is wearing the invisible sheer thighs underneath so gently squeeze my legs a little bit first before applying the thigh-high socks.

That way, those muffin tops will be less obvious and also hide my cellulite at the back of my leg too!

If you want a more slimming effect, style your black thigh-high socks with a sheer black thigh underneath is always a perfect look! “

After all, “Black x black” = double flattering!

4. Wear Fake Thigh high socks

If you think tip 3 is too much work for you (which is not actually…), you can always buy the fake thigh-high socks!

Yes, this is a real thing sold on Aliexpress and other places online.

With the fake thigh-high socks, you can look like you are wearing over-knee socks while in fact, you are just wearing normal pantyhose!

But since this is a relatively new product, their sizing may just stick to at most L.

But still, I want to share these tips with you as I realized not so many girls know about it.

You can always keep an eye out for the oversize fake thigh-high socks in the near future!

5. Pull your over-knee socks inside out

Another way to avoid socks from falling is to pull your socks inside out like in the photo above!

You don’t need knit over-knee socks to do that, you can do it on any kind of socks.

With easy folding and some adjustment, it can prevent your socks from falling.

Unless your socks are too loose, otherwise this trick should work!

6. Use Roll-On Body Fixative on your thighs

This tip is basic but I know some ladies out there still struggle should they get one.

Seriously, procrastinate no more as you will need this in many unexpected ways.

Besides applying them on the thigh area to keep your socks up, you can always use body glue for the loose top and tube dresses.

Nothing exciting, I am using JOBST Body Fixative that everyone else is using. All I can say is this little glue meets its slogan – IT STAYS!

7. Wear black garters and elastic clip garters

When it comes to garters, people always think of sexy lingerie.

While that can be one of the ways to style your over-knee socks, you can always try on these functional elastic clip garters to spice up your socks and prevent them from falling in the meantime!

I have to admit that I am addicted to buying different types of elastic clip garters to style my over-knee socks now.

This is so random… BUT

8. Avoid printed over-knee socks

Last but not least, avoid the big prints on your over-knee socks.

When it comes to over-knee socks, I do think less is more, and black plain socks are always my favorite.

Not only does it look classy, but it can also pop up on my top and dress as well. If you are really into printed over-knee socks, at least you stay away from the big prints like thick stripes.

Big prints naturally have an exaggerated effect.

With the big prints on the stretchy over-knee socks, it can further widen and shorten your leg, which is a big Nono.

While people may think of glamorous high heels, I am thinking about flats.

Ever since I entered my mid-20s, I’ve realized I value comfort a lot, and flat shoes and jeans are definitely my ultimate footwear.

While people may think flat shoes are not as flattering as heels in jeans, it’s not true!

With some styling tips and tricks, you can definitely look chic and put-together with flat shoes and jeans as well!

So here are the 8 tips on how to wear flat shoes with jeans to look taller and slimmer. Enjoy!

1. WEAR POINTED FLATS TO ELONGATE YOUR LEGS

With any kind of jeans, I will always pair them with pointed flats instead of round-toe flats.

Not only do round-toe flats look a bit juvenile to me, but they also make my legs appear shorter and thicker.

On the contrary, pointed flats have a natural V shape, and that helps us elongate our legs visually.

When it comes to the straps of the flat, I usually avoid them, especially if it’s a thick strap.

Those straps will cut out our ankle and chunk our leg into two pieces visually, which makes our upper body look chubbier.

2. WEAR NUDE FLATS FOR LONGER LEGS

If you want to level up your game, wearing nude-colored flats is even more flattering.

Matching the skin color of your legs makes your legs look more slender naturally.

If the nude color is not your thing, light saturation like beige can create a similar effect as well!

I adore nude flats so much that despite creating a longer appearance for my legs, nude color can help to draw attention to my top or jeans!

So if I wear printed jeans, I will usually wear nude flats to make my jeans look more pop out!

3. STYLE FLATS WITH WHITE JEANS FOR A CLASSY STYLE

Compared to the common blue jeans, white jeans naturally look more dressed up and polished.

While many ladies always ask how to dress down in white jeans, the easiest way is to wear a pair of flats to balance the formalness out!

I love wearing cream jeans, and I realize every time when I wear high heels with them, people always ask me where am I’m going tonight.

It’s unavoidable that white jeans with high heels can look a bit too dressed up for a weekend family gathering.

If you want to look more casual in your jeans, simple pointed flats or loafers can easily achieve a low-key classy look!

4. OPT FOR HIGH-WAISTED ANKLE-LENGTH JEANS WHEN YOU WEAR FLATS

Without heels to give us a few more inches, we should always pay attention to the jeans’ cut as it matters a lot.

Despite the common high-waisted jeans rule to make our legs look longer in proportion, always opt for jeans that show our ankles (except flared jeans).

Showing the thinnest part of the legs, again, makes our legs look slimmer, and this allows us to carry our flats in a more confident way!

5. WEAR FLARED JEANS WITH SNEAKERS & HIGH PLATFORM FLATS

Flared jeans are petite girls’ and flat lovers’ best friends, as it is impossible to look bad in flared jeans!

Opposite skinny jeans and boyfriend jeans, flared jeans normally land below the ankles.

However, with its slight bell-shaped design, it can effortlessly hide your calves and make your leg looks way longer.

I can basically wear whatever I want under the flared jeans, as I know I can still look chic and taller with any kind of flats!

If you want a more casual vibe, this is your golden chance to wear sneakers! To add a few inches, you will be obsessed with platform flats!

Please be mentally ready when people ask, How tall are you as you can look like a supermodel with flared jeans and platform flats!

6. PAIR COMBAT BOOTS WITH BLACK JEANS

While you can wear pointed flats and sneakers in black skinny jeans, let’s not forget it’s a good timing to wear combat boots!

If you want to wear your combat boots low-key, tone-on-tone is always the fashionable and easy outfit choice.

Tuck your distressed black jeans in your combat boots with a white V-neck tee and a black biker jacket; this look is always timeless and classic!

7. AVOID HEAVILY DISTRESSED JEANS WHEN WEARING FLATS

This is a subtle tip, but I can always tell the difference.

With heavily distressed jeans, those patches will create the horizontal lining of our legs and thus create an exaggerated effect.

Without the heels to make our legs appear taller, I always avoid heavily distressed jeans.

If you really want to wear distressed jeans, always look for the tatter patches located on the upper legs instead of the lower legs so that the legs can appear to be less chubby.

8. WEAR SKINNY JEANS WITH FLATS TO BALANCE THE LOWER BODY

This tip is only applicable to girls with thick thighs and calves.

It’s true that wearing heels can make your legs look longer.

But if you wear skinny jeans and a pair of high heels, you will realize your lower body looks like an inverted triangle.

Why? Because your whole legs are being squeezed by your skinny jeans, your delicate heels now look like the tip of an inverted triangle.

To balance things out, instead of wearing nude high heels, pointed flats, and sneakers can add some volume to your feet and make your figure look more balanced.

This tip really goes the opposite of the “The higher the heels, the better you look” general rule of thumb.

Sometimes, we have to take a step back to see what kinds of shoes flatter our bodies most!

It’s such a pity to give up wearing white jeans just because we don’t have lean legs.

Seriously, you literally look at least 5 inches taller with a pair of heels.

If you want to dress up for a date night and want to look posh, avoid heavily distressed jeans by all means.

A few patches are still acceptable but if that’s heavily distressed, it’s a big No-No. Distressed jeans are too casual and not really classy in nature so it will be hard to dress up.

Plus, those horizontal patches will exaggerate our legs and make them look thicker.

Tight jeans, wide-cut jeans, flared jeans…there are so many better options to replace distressed jeans.

5. Add a belt to polish your look

Adding a belt is always the easy trick that makes our outfit look smarter.

The belt is more than an accessory, it also reflects that you are paying attention to details and styling your outfit with a belt.

I usually avoid belts with a big designer logo as it looks like trying too hard.

For me, a dark thin leather belt is a perfect choice to dress up my jeans and help define my waist. I will always avoid a woven belt as this material is a bit too casual.

4. Opt for a Peplum Top to upgrade your outfit

Can we spend some time appreciating the beauty of the peplum top? They are the hidden gem that I wish I had known earlier.

With its unique design, a peplum top can hide my muffin top perfectly and help me achieve a more sleek look.

Plus, it just gives a sense of formalness and elegance to the outfit which I really love.

Another great alternative is a belt top, which looks even more professional and goes well, especially with tight jeans!

Despite the tops I’ve mentioned above, we should always avoid a round-neck top.

As a girl with chubby cheeks, a round neck top always makes my face look rounder and my neckline looks short, just not flattering…at all.

Instead, always choose the V-neck shirt to create a slimmer effect on your face and upper body!

5. Wear blazers or a longline cardigan to create a leaner frame

Finally, it’s a blazer and cardigan time!

This is such a no-brainer way to dress up our jeans, especially for plus-size ladies!

Wearing fitted blazers and cardigans hides our hips and thighs area perfectly and creates an illusion of a longer slimmer silhouette.

When it comes to the length of the blazer, always look for a short blazer (approximately to the above hip area) so we can appear to have long legs.

On the opposite, a long blazer will make our body ratio look a bit weird, and this will appear to drag our upper body down.

Is that just me every time when I style my jeans with a blazer I can totally feel the girl boss vibes! Anyone?

Time to change our sneakers to elegant flats and heels for a glamorous dress-up transformation!

Needless to say, heels look great on us as they make us look slimmer and taller instantly. If you want to level up the game, feel free to wear a similar color with your jeans and make your outfit look more united!

But please always avoid heels with thick stripes, as this will cut out our ankles and make our calves look thicker.

For the necklace, again, V-line necklaces are just simply the best. I especially adore the Y-necklace as it kind of brings out lowkey elegance vibes.

I once wore a thick choker and I can guarantee you I looked suffocated the whole time, just an epic fail!

In the days when earth-tone outfits are basically everywhere, brown pants are regarded as one of the must-haves in the wardrobe!

When I first embrace this trend, I thought pairing brown pants is an easy task. But to my surprise, it takes me quite a long time to figure out how to look the best with brown pants!

So now, here are the 7 tips when for what to wear with brown pants, enjoy!

1. Wear reddish brown if you have a yellow or gold base skin tone

Before getting into the outfit that matches your brow pants, here’s a fundamental thing that we have to figure out and that’s what types of tone flatters your skin tone the best!

If you are trying brown tone-on-tone dressing and wondering why you look a bit dimmish, you may want to reconsider the shapes of brown!

As a girl with a yellow base tone, I wear khaki for a long period of time but until this year, I realize yellowish brown like khaki will make me look even more yellowish and dimmer.

It makes my khaki dress blend in with my skin “seamlessly” and that’s not flattering at all.

Instead, for the yellow or gold skin tone girls, we should always wear the reddish-brown.

This will make our skin look brighter and pop up easily.

My favorite reddish-brown is cinnamon-brown (#D2691E) and caramel, they are both warm shade of brown that is easy to style with any other neutral colors like cream and beige color!

Added to this, some ladies may wonder can they still wear the khaki trench coat? Well, yes!

A Khaki trench coat is fine as long as you don’t go extreme monochromic outfit.

For me, I usually wear a beige top and creamy tight jeans to balance the yellowish hue of the trench coat, turns out it works well!

2. Style orange-brown if you have a white cool skin tone

If you have a white cool skin tone, orange-brown will look the best on you! If you don’t want to remember all the color palette names, there’s a stupid easy rule.

Brown is actually a darker shade of orange! I am not kidding here as brown is a composite color.

So if you saw a brown and thought it has more of a warm tone than a yellowish tone, then it probably is one of the orange-brown colors.

The warm tone of orange-brown, balances the cool tone out and makes you look more put together instantly!

3. Pair khaki if you have a black skin tone

If you have a black skin tone, you are lucky because you can wear the trendy color khaki!

Compared to dark brown, light brown like golden brown can be more flattering and makes your body curves look more defined.

Added to this, beige looks really classy on dark skin tones as well!

After figuring out the right shade of brown, we can finally discuss the outfit that goes well with your brown pants!

Yes I know they are comfy but they are just too soft to maintain a structured shape for your pants.

Plus, this fabric itself is too casual to wear at work.

B. Thin/ low quality cotton

Thick cotton is fine but if that’s a thin or low-quality cotton, it will again make the pants look too sloppy.

Especially when you wear light color jogger pants like white or creamy, I am pretty sure that will be a little bit see-through as well.

With cotton joggers, always take a look at the materials and look for at least 20% Polyester and nylon.

The heavier material can balance things out and dress up the look.

A. Silk

Can we talk about how fashionable yet classy silk joggers is?

Silk by nature is soft thin cotton that looks elegant and it just makes the jogger pants look less baggy.

Added to this, silk fabric is lustrous and that makes your pants look more dressed up without too much styling.

With a black V neck top and beige silk jogger pants, that is a truly smart casual outfit!

Silk jogger pants are my all-time favorite, it just makes me stand out from the crowd wearing cotton pants.

Not to mention it keeps me cool during those hot summer days!

Reminder: For these kind of drawstring jogger pants, it’s best to cover that drawstring area up with a dressy top to look put together.

B.Twill

If silk is for summer then twill is for winter days!

For the cotton jogger pants, the shape will completely go after washing it a couple of times.

But with a thick fabric like twill, it keeps the pants structured and durable. Twill is always a decent choice for jogger pants.

C. Chino

Compare to the fabric like Khakis, chino is a bit dressier and this can make jogger pants looks more dressed up with a sophisticated vibe!

3. When in doubt, add a belt

Trust me, it just instantly dress up the look!

From my experience, you just can’t go wrong with a brown thin belt <3

You can always go monochrome and style your black pants with a black blazer!

Not only it is high fashion, but it also makes your legs appear longer.

As a petite girl, monochrome is the ultimate no-fail styling tip for me!

6. Wear pointed flats and heels to complete your smart casual look

Last but not least, change your sporty sneakers to a pointed flat to achieve your office look!

Instead of the round toe ballet flats, I do think pointed flats are a better choice as the V shape can lengthen your legs visually.

By picking the same color as your pants, the elongating effect can be even stronger.

I’ve tried styling my jogger jeans with round flats but that’s just not as flattering as pointed flats, it makes my legs look shorter!

Of course, if you want to look more of a girl boss, heels are your best friends!

Any kind of heels can work except the thick ankle strap heels.

The thick straps will cut out your ankles and make your legs looks slightly thicker!
